Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR has been demonstrated to be particularly effective in treating emotional trauma and has been called a “revolutionary approach to healing” from the effects of trauma. EMDR is also an evidenced based treatment for PTSD with official approval from the World Health Organization and the American Psychiatric Association.  It is also helpful in addressing depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, panic attacks, phobias, substance misuse, dissociative disorders, personality disorders and grief.

EMDR operates on the belief that the body and mind have natural, innate ways of healing, but that at times, memories are so overwhelming that they get stuck (or stored) in parts of our brain that are difficult to access.  Unlike other interventions, EMDR does not require the individual to relive the trauma.
